According to the Associated Press, Santa Clara County Judge John Herlihy on Monday dismissed the Oakland Raiders’ suit against the National Football League, which was intended to prevent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers from sporting their uniforms for games played in California because the Raiders claim both teams’ uniforms violate its trademark rights.
The judge said the case belonged in federal court, which has the Raiders exploring its legal options.
The Raiders claimed Tampa Bay's pirate theme and logo is too similar to that of Oakland's. The Raiders object to the Panthers' uniforms because they feature silver and black colors, which are also Oakland's two primary colors.
