The New York Jets are riding things out with rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who has been turnover prone so far this season. Find out what Rex Ryan had to say about his young signal-caller and what needs to change in order for Gang Green to get back on the winning track.

Despite 11 turnovers through four games this season, it appears Geno Smith's starting quarterback job is safe for now. Speaking with reporters on Monday, head coach Rex Ryan quickly dismissed any notion of the Jets benching the rookie signal-caller.

"It’s not a thought at this point right now," noted Ryan. "Not a thought."

The New York Jets put an added emphasis on ball security all throughout training camp and so far Smith has been prone to the turnover bug. As the miscues continue to pile up, Ryan is confident his young gunslinger can knock out the bad habit.

"Absolutely, I do believe it," noted Ryan. "But I think sometimes it’s something that you have to see. I’m reminded of the time we threw the six interceptions against Buffalo (in 2009). We ran for 320 yards (and) lost the game because we threw six picks. Again, it has to get better."

Lately, the Jets have been their own worst enemy committing six turnovers and committing 30 penalties over the past two games. If New York hopes to get back in the win column on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons, discipline and ball security will remain paramount.

"We can improve in two areas quickly in my opinion and that could be substantial, protecting the ball and the other is the penalties."
