April 20 - The Indianapolis Colts signed Tampa Bay free agent defensive tackle James Cannida on Saturday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cannida will join former Tampa Bay and new Indianapolis head coach Tony Dungy.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hoped to re-sign free agent defensive tackle James Cannida, but the Indianapolis Colts made that impossible on Saturday when they signed the fifth-year player to a contract.

Cannida entered the National Football League as Tampa Bay's 1998 sixth-round draft choice out of Nevada-Reno.

Cannida (6-2, 291) wasn't a starter, but he provided Tampa Bay's defensive line with depth at the nose tackle position. He saw action in 40 games and started two of them during his tenure in Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay currently has four defensive tackles on their roster. Tampa Bay signed DT Buck Gurley (6-2, 295) earlier in the offseason in anticipation of losing Cannida. Tampa Bay also has second-year DT Chartric Darby under contract.
