Tampa Bay selected Nebraska tight end Tracey Wistrom in the seventh round of April’s NFL Draft. Wistrom was the second of four rookies drafted by the Bucs in the seventh round. Pewter Report caught up with Wistrom last month during his first pro mini-camp and will continue to follow him through his entire rookie experience while he tries to secure a spot on Tampa Bay’s final 53-man roster.
NAME: Tracey Wistrom
NUMBER 49
COLLEGE Nebraska
AGE 23
HOMETOWN Webb City, MO
HOW MUCH DO YOU FEEL YOU'VE PROGRESSED SINCE LAST MONTH’S CAMP?
"I've come a little ways now. I'm just trying to get the system down now.
It's starting to make a little more sense. Instead of just trying to
memorize the plays, you kind of see why they're there and recognize some
patterns, which helps you learn a little bit better. Overall, it's coming
together. I've been pretty pleased with my practice so far. I'm just trying
to come out here and do whatever I can."
HOW ARE YOU ADJUSTING TO FLORIDA HEAT?
"Yeah, it's hot. I'm just trying to stay hydrated. I'm getting there,
though. I feel a lot better now than I did at the first mini-camp. This
seems to be getting a little easier to me physically and mentally. I'm
adjusting out here, slowly but surely. Hopefully when training camp starts
at the end of July, I'll be ready."
WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION LIKE WHEN YOU HEARD TRAINING CAMP WOULD BE HELD IN ORLANOD?
"I'll go wherever they tell me to go. I'm won’t be there to go to Disney World
or things like that. I'm there for camp. That's kind of the approach I've
taken throughout this whole thing. It's a business now and I've got to treat
it that way. I'm just trying to make this roster and I'll go wherever they
send me to play football."
ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO LAND A JOB AS A LONG SNAPPER?
“I'm still working on it. I'm just working on
every specialty there is and that's something I have to be able to do in
order to make this team because there's so many great tight ends on this team. I'm
just trying to do whatever I can right now on special teams and at tight end
to make this roster."
YOU’VE BEEN IN TAMPA FOR A LITTLE OVER ONE MONTH – WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT SO FAR?
'It's beautiful. I get to go out and do a little bit of fishing, which is
something I love to do. The weather is always beautiful. I'm really enjoying
my time down here and hopefully it becomes permanent."
