It appears as if the injury to rookie guard Arron Sears is not as serious as was feared on Tuesday. Head coach Jon Gruden said on Wednesday that he believes Sears may only miss the next couple of days of practice, and could be back for the preseason finale.

Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden told reporters on Wednesday that Arron Sears’ sprained ankle would keep him out at least the next couple of days, but it appears the injury wasn’t as serious as initially feared.

Sears, a second-round pick who had won the starting job at left guard, sprained the ankle in a pass protection drill on Tuesday. Trainers carted him off the field and he left One Buc Place on crutches.

Gruden said tests on the ankle revealed the injury wasn’t that serious.

"I don’t know. I would assume so, yes," Gruden said. "It’s nothing serious. He’s going to be out a couple days. I don’t know that he’ll play in this game, but he’s okay. It’s nothing serious."

Gruden was unsure whether Sears would play on Saturday in Miami. He seemed hopeful that Sears would be back in the lineup for the final preseason game against Houston on Aug. 30.

Sears was not at practice on Wednesday.
