Bucs Gradebook
Quarterback: C. Jeff Garcia had a great start, but once Seattle adjusted he tapered off. He didn’t make that much of a difference. Luke McCown looked rusty.
Running backs: B. Cadillac Williams had a 5.0-yard average before his injury. The run game sputtered without him. Michael Pittman had just three carries.
Wide receivers: C. Joey Galloway had a nice outing, but most of the receiving corps disappeared after the first quarter. Maurice Stovall didn’t have a catch.
Offensive line: C-. They blocked well against the run, but their pass protection regressed. Garcia was hit at least 10 times in 27 pass attempts. Davin Joseph had two penalties (and two more declined).
Defensive line: C. There were two sacks, but only one from the defensive line. They forced only four quarterback hurries and gave up a 100-yard rushing game. The push into the backfield wasn’t there.
Linebackers: C. Barrett Ruud had 13 tackles. Derrick Brooks had eight, but two costly misplays. Cato June disappeared, making just three tackles. No big plays of note.
Secondary: C. Allowed a couple of big plays, but for the most part forced the Seahawks to work underneath. Jermaine Phillips made 10 tackles. No interceptions, though.
Special teams: C. An average outing. They allowed a big return on punt coverage that set up a score. P Josh Bidwell nearly made a costly mistake, getting a rare do-over.
Overall grade: C. After the first quarter, this team resembled last year’s unit. The offense sputtered, the defense made a few too many mistakes and Seattle did just enough to overtake them. The Bucs should have scored more than six points, and the Seahawks should have scored more than 20.
