Bucs sign Crockett, move Simms to IR

Tampa Bay shored up its depth at running back by signing former Oakland back Zach Crockett on Wednesday. To make room, the Bucs officiallly moved Chris Simms to injured reserve, ending his season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced that they have signed RB Zack Crockett and placed QB Chris Simms on the Injured Reserve list.

The Buccaneers also signed RB Lionel Gates to the practice squad and released RB DonTrell Moore from the practice squad.

Crockett, a 13-year veteran, originally entered the league as a third-round selection (79th overall) by Indianapolis in the 1995 NFL Draft and has spent time with the Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders during his career. He has played in 174 career games with 61 starts, and his career numbers include 510 rushing attempts for 1,701 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also has 96 receptions for 680 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Crockett also played for Bucs head coach Jon Gruden in Oakland.

Crockett worked out last Tuesday for the Buccaneers.

Gates was released by Tampa Bay on September 1 after spending training camp with the Buccaneers.
