Jeff Garcia will be the inactive third quarterback and will not start against the Houston Texans today.
Luke McCown, who led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 27-23 victory over New Orleans last week, will make his second straight start. McCown grew up in Jacksonville, Texas, about three hours northwest of Houston.
Garcia suffered a deep back bruise against Washington two weeks ago and did not practice until Friday last week leading up to the Saints game. This week Garcia practiced in a limited fashion all three days, but the Buccaneers never committed to a starter during the week.
Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said earlier this week that if Garcia was medically cleared to play on Sunday, he would play.
Also, running back Michael Pittman did not make the trip to Houston for the game. He was doubtful with his ankle injury. And defensive end Greg Spires was declared inactive.
Also inactive for the Buccanners are RB Lionel Gates, LB Jeremiah Trotter, G Dan Buenning, TE Keith Heinrich and DT Greg Peterson.
Houston’s inactives are QB Matt Schaub (3rd QB), DB Dexter Wynn, LB William Kershaw, LB Danny Clark, C Drew Hodgdon, T Jordan Black, OT Brandon Frye, WR David Anderson.
Sage Rosenfels will start for the Texans at quarterback.
