Bucs re-sign RB Bennett

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and running back Michael Bennett agreed to a new contract which will keep the veteran running back in Tampa Bay in 2008 and keep him out of free agency.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced that they have re-signed RB Michael Bennett. Terms were not disclosed.

Bennett (5-9, 207), a veteran of 89 career games with 50 starts, was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2002 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings and has 810 career rushes for 3,615 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has also caught 150 career passes for 1,218 yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Last season Bennett totaled 41 carries for 189 yards and one touchdown for the Buccaneers after being acquired by Tampa Bay in a trade with Kansas City. He also had five receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown. Bennett appeared in six regular season games for the Chiefs rushing 20 times for 52 yards and had 10 receptions for 47 yards.

Entering his eighth season, Bennett originally entered the league as a first-round selection (27th overall) by the Vikings in the 2001 NFL Draft, and has recorded nine 100-yard rushing games in his career.
