Josh Johnson is the seventh quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What were his first impressions of his selection by the Bucs and how does he perceive his role in Tampa Bay? Find out in this exclusive Draft Day Q&A and find out before anyone else.

On how it feels to be a Buccaneer

Josh Johnson: It feels great. I am ecstatic because this is a perfect fit, and to me, this is a blessing in disguise.

On his familiarity with the west coast offense

Josh Johnson: Talking with [Quarterback] Coach [Greg] Olson, and other teams that ran the west coast, it was so simple. There were some protections that I may have called one thing and it was different other places. Some teams use numbers for protections and some teams use words, but everything is just talking football. I taught them what I know and then they said we do this, we do that, and it was real easy to explain things.

On if he thinks it will be a few years before he plays

Josh Johnson: Most likely. I get to learn from Jeff Garcia, and he is a great quarterback to learn from. Growing up in the Bay area, I was a 49ers fan, so I have been watching Garcia since I was little. I am pretty sure they are going to bring me along, and I am going to try and learn as much as I can, and get better everyday.

On how he was able to throw 43 touchdowns and only one interception

Josh Johnson: Understanding the west coast offense, it is a great offense, it works for you. That is what I do; I let the offense work for me. I take what the defense gives me and what you think about the west coast offense there is always somebody open, you just have to find them. I knew where everyone was at because my knowledge for the game has improved so tremendously, and that is what I feel my greatest asset is, how smart I am. I value the ball and I don’t throw interceptions.

On the East-West Shrine game

Josh Johnson: I think the game helped me out a lot because one of my main knocks was that I haven’t played against a lot of competition, that I have done all of these things but it wasn’t against anybody. In Houston, I just wanted to go out and show that I can play on this level and that is what I did.
