The Bucs looked north for a new offensive coordinator, announcing today that Jeff Jagodzinkski, Boston College’s former head coach, had been tapped to return to the NFL.
Jagodzinski, was fired in January after interviewing for a coaching job with the Jets. He coached at Boston College for two seasons.
Tampa Bay’s new offensive line coach also hails from Boston; the Bucs hired Pete Mangurian, 53, as the team’s next offensive line coach. His previous job was as New England’s tight ends coach, a position he had held since 2005.
During Jagodzinkski’s Boston tenure, the Eagles posted a 21-7 record and two bowl appearances. He also worked with ACC Player of the Year QB Matt Ryan, who was also named the 2008 NFL AP Rookie of the Year during first season in Atlanta.
Jagodzinkski, who has coached for more than two decades, has previous experience as offensive coordinator in the NFL. He held the same job in Green Bay in 2006, leading QB Brett Favre, 1,000-yard receiver Donald Driver and 1,000-yard rusher Ahman Green.
He also spent two seasons with the Falcons, serving as tight ends coach and then offensive line coach. During Jagodzinkski’s second year in Atlanta, the Falcons racked up 2,546 rushing yards while current Bucs RB Warrick Davis ran 1,416 yards, a career high, and made it to the Pro Bowl.
From 1999 to 2003, Jagodzinkski was the tight ends coach in Green Bay.
Mangurian, with the 20 years of coaching experience, has spent 18 years in the NFL, including stints as offensive coordinator for the Falcons. He also spent three years as head coach as Cornell University. Mangurian began his coaching career as an assistant at Southern Methodist University. He also worked at New Mexico State University, Stanford and Louisiana State, his alma mater.
