The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced that they have acquired TE Kellen Winslow from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for undisclosed draft picks.
Winslow was named to the Pro Bowl following a 2007 season in which he reeled in 82 passes and set career highs for yards with 1,106 and touchdowns with five. His 13.5 yards per catch average in 2007 led all NFL tight ends and he posted 17 receptions of 20 or more yards, also tops among all tight ends. With his 1,106 yards receiving, he became just the 14th tight end in NFL history to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in a single season.
That performance followed a 2006 campaign that featured a career-high 89 receptions, for 875 yards and three touchdowns. The 89 catches led all NFL tight ends in 2006 and tied Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome's franchise single-season record.
For his career, Winslow has amassed 219 career receptions for 2,459 yards with 11 touchdowns in 44 games. Those numbers include five games with 10 or more catches, including a career-high 11 receptions on three separate occasions, and four 100-yard receiving games. Winslow played his first five seasons (2004-08) with the Browns after being selected with the sixth overall pick by Cleveland in the 2004 NFL Draft.
