Kickers shine during mini-camp

Among the standouts from Tampa Bay Buccaneers mini-camp earlier this week were placekicker Matt Bryant and punter Josh Bidwell.

Matt Bryant showed why he was one of the most accurate kickers in the league during Tampa Bay Buccaneers mini-camp earlier this week by successfully connecting on all of his attempts during practice from different hash marks and distances.

Josh Bidwell looked solid punting the ball to return man Clifton Smith, who didn't appear to muff any returns. WRs Joel Filani and Amarri Jackson worked as gunners for the punting team along with a few others.

Other players made names for themselves, but not in a positive way. USF's Jarrett Buie, a rookie defensive end, beat OT James Lee on the right side and reached QB Byron Leftwich before the quarterback was able to get rid of the ball. Unfortunately for Buie, the second time he beat Lee he ran into Leftwich, knocking him down in the process. That's a no-no during mini-camp.

This was enough to send Head Coach Raheem Morris over the edge. Morris screamed at Buie to leave the field while ordering his defensive coaches to control their players.

Some players were no-shows or missed workouts due to minor injuries. QB Brian Griese and OG Arron Sears didn't show up for the mandatory practices. Players who missed at least one workout due to injuries included DE Stylez G. White, WR Sammie Stroughter, DT Greg Peterson, LB Matt McCoy and RB Carnell Williams. McCoy was nursing a calf injury, while Peterson was dealing with a knee injury. DE Gaines Adams did not practice as well after injuring his foot during Tuesday's practice.
