Porter Shocker; Roster Move

One day after taking part in practice for the first time this week, Joey Porter was ruled out of Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. According to published reports, Porter will not play because of a coach's decision.

This move comes at the end of a week where no domino playing took place in the locker room, with Coach Tony Sparano saying he wanted his players to focus more on football.

It's been a strange week for Porter, who declined to talk to the South Florida media all week — except for briefly answering one question from a reporter on Thursday.

This came after Porter came up with no tackles or no sacks in Sunday's 10-point loss at New England. Porter's picture was shown late in that game, with his stat line underneath.

Porter did take part in his weekly segment on the NFL Network and said not to expect him to stop speaking his mind regardless of the outcome of certain games.

"I'm going to be me," is how Porter put it.

It's unknown what happened to convince Sparano to bench Porter for the Tampa Bay game, but he was listed only as questionable on Friday's injury report.

The Dolphins have a couple of options as far as replacing Porter in the starting lineup, whether it be inserting Charlie Anderson at weakside linebacker or putting Matt Roth at strongside linebacker and moving Jason Taylor to the weak side.

A long-shot possibility would be giving Cameron Wake a start, although defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni said the former CFL star's transition to outside linebacker was still a work in progress.

In other news Saturday, the Dolphins filled their vacant roster spot by promoting rookie tight end Kory Sperry from the practice squad.

The move is interesting because Sperry was chosen ahead of John Nalbone, who began the season on the Dolphins' active roster after Miami took him in the fifth round of the 2009 draft.
